WASHINGTON: A 57-year-old Indian American man became last Wednesday the latest victim of an assailant who, the police said, has targeted men from the same community in New Jersey state.

The assailant is reported to have arrived in a car, walked up to Rohit Patel from behind and hit him on the head, leaving him with broken teeth and other facial injuries.

Police arrested Patel’s alleged attacker and identified him as Nyle Kilgore, 24, who lives in North Brunswick, as does his victim Patel, who is living with his son.

Police believe he may be responsible for several attacks on men of Indian decent in the area, and now Kilgore is free on bail, according to CBS New York.

The son, Dipak Patel, told the channel his father was out on his morning walk when he “realizes there’s a car that’s stopped, keeps walking, and he realizes someone gets out of the car.”

The assailant is free on fail, which worries the Patels.

An elderly Indian man visiting his son in Alabama was stopped by an police officer in February while he was similarly out on a morning walk, and thrown to the ground paralyzing him partly.

The officer was responding to an emergency call from a resident of the neighborhood who reported seeing a “skinny” “black male” walking about in a suspicious manner.

The police officer was fired and slapped with criminal charges.
