Several people took to the streets in various parts of the state, demanding justice and better facilities

Jalandhar : Government school teachers supported by Congress leaders blocked the Nawanshahr-Ropar highway in Balachaur for nearly two hours. They demanded that an Akali sarpanch, a panch and a block samiti member be booked for allegedly trying to attack an ETT teacher with rods at his school in Jainpur village in Nawanshahr yesterday.

The teachers alleged the police failed to register an FIR against the accused yesterday. As the matter flared up, Balachaur Congress chief Rajwinder Lucky and other party workers supported them and they sat on a dharna on the highway, blocking the traffic

The agitating teachers lifted the dharna only after SP Gagan Ajit Singh assured them of registering an FIR. Finally, sarpanch Gurnam Singh, panch Mangat Ram, block samiti member Parshotam Lal, his sons Sonu and Surjit were booked on the complaint of Parmanand Brahmpuri.
