Sukhbir Badal's dubious credentials as an expert on militancy - 23/04/2008
Recent statements by Sukhbir Badal that the Congress high command clarify accusations that Mrs Bhathal harboured a terrorist, ignore the fact that during the dark period in Punjab's recent past Sukhbir was happily observing Punjab's bloodshed from the safe environs on sunny California.
For a person set to become the next Chief Minister of Punjab it is sad that Sukhbir cannot rise above blatant opportunism.
Sukhbir is not short of media coverage; indeed his every utterence is reported and analysed in full.
So to resort to fanning the flames of a base less allegation against Mrs Bhathal is poor judgement on his part.
If he is seriously interested in identifying persons complicit in militancy he need look no further than the ranks of the Akali MLAs that he will soon lead.
Few are party to the details of Sukhbir's overseas learning stint, but it is unlikely that these included an incisive analysis of the blood shed in far away Punjab.
Sukhbir, please stick to your strengths in usurping Punjab's bus transport and cable industry, and leave commentary of Punjab's militant past to more informed observers.
