Cong stages protest in Bathinda

Bathinda: The Congress leaders and workers of Bathinda urban on Friday stage a protest at Paras Ram Nagar Chowk against the former SAD-BJP government for issuing cards to wrong and fake beneficiaries under Atta Dal Scheme. The SAD-BJP not only siphoned off funds from the government coffers and did not let the poor have their right.
Agitating workers said that the food supplies department connived with the councilors and made fake atta dal beneficiary cards to the tune of at least 100 fake cards per ward. They said that these people have done a massive scam through these bogus cards. The role of depot holders, food supply department, many municipal councilors and Akali leaders is under doubt in this case.
They added that afraid of their name being dragged into the scam, on Thursday the former MLA Sarup Chand Singla held a protest drama whereas people are well aware of his motives. Addressing a massive gathering, the PPCC general secretary Ashok Kumar stated that atta dal scheme will continue uninterrupted. He said that government had enough stock of grains for poor and every beneficiary will be given atta-dal, wheat etc. He said that under the new scheme, smart card of every household will be issued in name of the woman of house. Money will be issued in the bank account of every beneficiary. Through the smart cards, people will be able to buy tea, sugar etc from the shops of their own choice.
