SANGRUR: A man and his mother have been booked by Sangrur police for forcing his wife to undergo an abortion. The private clinic that executed the crime has come under the police scanner.
The victim, a resident of Sangrur, gave a statement to the police that her husband Naresh Bansal and members of her in-laws family forced her to abort a foetus that was eight weeks old at a private clinic.
According to the information received from Sangrur DSP Gurmeet Singh Dhindsa, Jyoti’s husband and his mother wanted to get rid of her child. They forced her to get the abortion done. Based on the complaint, the police has booked Naresh Bansal and his mother u/s 313(causing miscarriage without woman' consent), 120 IPC. The DSP said that the private clinic’s role is being looked into.
A woman Kailash Kaur has been arrested by Mansa police for allegedly carrying out illegal abortion. Kaur was caught after she struck a deal with a fake customer who had come to trap Kaur.
According to Mansa CMO Dr. Baldev Singh Sahota, the lady could not produce any valid documents or a medical degree to carry out abortions and she had put a board outside her house that she carries out deliveries.
Instruments to carry out abortions have been recovered from Kaur’s house by the police, along with the health authorities. A case against the lady has been registered by the police under medical termination of pregnancy, MTP, Act.
