LUDHIANA: Congress councillors have given the mayor, Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria, a ultimatum of December 13 to call a municipal corporation House meeting, failing which they said they would go on a hunger strike.
The ultimatum comes following a Congress councillors’ meeting held on Wednesday, in which senior councillors Hemraj Agarwal and Balkar Singh called on others to go on a strike if the demand is not met.
The last meeting of the house was called on February 24.
While councillors across party lines have repeatedly demanded a meeting to discuss development projects hanging fire, the mayor has so far ignored them.
“With no House meeting in the past nine months, development of the city has ground to a halt,” said Par minder Mehta, the Congress spokesperson.
