Sangrur : Members of the ETT Unemployed Teachers Union today clashed with the police during a protest near the residence of Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa.

The protesters led by union president Jasbir Singh Bhullarherri were allegedly trying to cross over the barricades put by the police near Dhindsa’s house. They were protesting against non-recruitment of thousands of TET pass teachers for the past three years.

Earlier the protesters gathered at Banasar Garden and marched towards the Dhindsa’s residence. They raised slogans in favour of their demand and against the government. After reaching near FM’s residence they sat on the main road and staged a dharna for more than two hours. They also blocked the road there.

Bhullarherri said on November 4 last year, the Education Minister had assured them that he would issue an advertisement in a month to recruit TET pass teachers. Then again on December 29 at a meeting with the union, Cheema had assured that the advertisement would be issued in a week, but nothing had been done so far, he alleged.

Bhullarherri said they were fed up with the government’s false promises. He said they would hold a conference at Muktsar on Maghi Mela.

The protesters lifted the dharna when Naib Tehsildar Ranjit Singh got their meeting fixed with the Finance Minister for tomorrow. Bhullarherri said after meeting Dhindsa, a meeting of the union would be held on January 19 with Education Minister on the matter.
