JALANDHAR: The local unit of the Youth Congress held a protest here demanding the rollback of the central government’s Land Acquisition Act on Friday in the city.

The Youth Congress is holding nationwide protest at the headquarters of all parliamentary constituencies. Punjab Youth Congress president Vikramjeet Singh Chaudhury led the protest.

“The BJP government at the Centre is following a black ordinance route by avoiding a debate on the Land Acquisition Act and taking the ordinance path to pass it. Farmers are already troubled by serious problems such as not getting fair MSP, uninterrupted power supply, shortage of fertilisers and seeds. This ordinance will ruin them,” Vikramjit said.

He asked as why the chief minister, who has always been boasting as the messiah of farmers, is quiet on the issue. “Such attitude exposes the real face of the SAD-BJP government in the state,” he added.

On utterances of Union minister Vijay Sampla against former prime minister Manmohan Singh, he said Singh should be addressed with respect.
