PATIALA: Condemning the Moga bus molestation incident, in which a woman and her 13-yearold daughter were pushed out of the bus by the conductor and the teenager died, the Istri Jagriti Manch has demanded resignation of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal from the post of the state’s home minister.

Members of the organsiation also burnt an effigy of Sukhbir at the Nehru Park here. Sukhbir is the owner of the transport company, to which the bus belonged

General secretary Amandeep Kaur Deol alleged that the Punjab government has adopted a very insensitive attitude towards the issues concerning women. “The Moga incident reminded the people of the Nirbhaya incident that took place in Delhi in 2012,” Deol said.

“Taking moral responsibility for the horrendous incident involving the bus of the Orbit transport company owned by him, Sukhbir must quit as home minister of the state,” she reiterated.

‘MERE EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY NOT ENOUGH’

Punjabi University teachers under the banner of the Democratic Teachers Front (DTF) strongly criticised the Moga bus incident.

Members of the front felt that mere expression of sympathy by higher-ups is not enough to restore the confidence of the citizens in the impartiality, neutrality and effectiveness of the law and order machinery of the state.

“The need of the hour is to depoliticise and decriminalise the law and order machinery to break the unholy and deep-rooted nexus between the police force, bureaucracy and the politicians who patronise anti-social elements for their vested interests,” said Jaswinder Brar, convener of the front.
