Phagwara : Congress candidate from Phagwara Joginder Singh Mann today raised the issue of the SHO misbehaving with a woman and children in Phagwara with the Election Commission. He urged the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to rein in the Phagwara police.

In a letter to the CEO, Mann said that on Friday, a woman and her children were forcibly taken to the police station by SHOs Nirmal Singh of the city police and Sulakhan Singh of the Satnampura Police. A policewoman was not accompanying them. He said the video of the SHO roughing up the woman had already gone viral.

Mann said the aim behind the unlawful move was to terrorise the people who had voted against the highhandedness of the police and the ruling alliance.

He added that though the people had protested against this “high-handedness” of the police, instead of taking any action against these erring officers, the police authorities were threatening to lodge cases against those who have raised this matter.

Mann urged the CEO to intervene and take action against erring officers.

Meanwhile, the police have identified 14 persons for the assault on BJP leader Ashok Duggal and his wife Neetu Duggal and abusing personnel of the Satnampura police station, interfering in the police duty, damaging police property during the dharna.

SSP Alka Meena denied any political pressure in police working.
