CHANDIGARH: Punjab SC and BC welfare minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot on Friday accused the previous Akali government of diverting funds made available by the Centre under the Scheduled Castes sub-plan for other purposes during its rule of 10 years.
Dharamsot said the Central government releases financial assistance for the economic wellbeing of SC families living below poverty line under special centrally sponsored scheme. “As per the scheme, a subsidy of ₹10,000 was given for self-employment apart from implementation of skill development programmes,” he said in a statement, giving details of utilisation.
The minister said a total of ₹10 crore was spent out of ₹17 crore provided by the Central government for the year 2007-08 under SC sub-plan of the state. Only ₹7 crore out of ₹17 crore during 2008-09, ₹5 crore out of ₹20 crore during 2009-10 and ₹10 crore out of ₹28 crore during 2010-11 were spent.
