‘Youngsters must come forward for drug de-addiction and women empowerment’

Jalandhar : Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Rana KP Singh on Saturday, called upon the youth to come forward for drug de- addiction and women empowerment by reflecting their concerns and ways to meet these current challenges.

Addressing the inaugural session of three- day conference of Model United Nations at APJ College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, Rana said that the present era calls for non-discrimination against women and drug de-addiction. He also hailed the organizers to include both issues in agenda during the conference.

Touching another sensitive issue of Farmers’ suicide, the speaker said that rapid industrialization has frustrated the very concept of agriculture world-wide. “India, being primarily an agrarian state, may have suffered the most. In the wake of growing concern for depleting percentage of agricultural land across the world, some serious thoughts need to be applied by the UN”, he said.

Hailing the role of United Nation, Rana said that in the wake of globalization, every problem is getting interconnected and becoming an international problem. “A worldwide partnership between the public and private sectors is needed, involving individuals, non-governmental organizations, corporations and foundations and most importantly the educational institutions”, he added.

Former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar and former MP Sandeep Dixit, Chief Advisor to the Chief Minister of Punjab Lt Gen T S Shergill (retd) and Sanjay Jha were also among the speakers during the conference.

It may be mentioned here that more than 500 delegates from various international institutes will take part in the discussion on various issues pertaining to the present world during the three days conference.
