CHANDIGARH : Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh met party MLAs of four districts – Ropar, Mohali, Pathankot and Mohali — over lunch on Wednesday. Amarinder spent about 90 minutes with the MLAs who discussed their issues and handed over a list of demands of their constituencies.

With the apparent purpose to check the perception that MLAs don’t have easy access to the CM, these meetings, as CMO sources, would be a periodic exercise. The exercise began in six weeks after the Congress took over in March. The chief minister was expected to wind up the meetings with all 76 MLAs within a week to 10 days. On Thursday, CM will meet MLAs from Kapurthala and Jalandhar districts.

CM’s principal secretary Tejvir Singh and his special principal secretary Gurkirat Kirpal Singh, who were present during the Wednesday meeting, were told to look into the issues raised by MLAs. Cabinet minister Charanjit Singh Channi was also present.

“Such meetings will help the CM to remain in touch with people and their problems. A feedback on government’s performance is imperative,” said Mohali MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu after the meeting.
