Tarn Taran : Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday announced jobs for the son and the daughter of JCO Paramjeet Singh, killed by Pakistani forces at the LoC recently, during a visit to the family’s home here.
The state government will provide the soldier’s 16-year-old daughter Simrandeep Kaur a police job, and also a job to his son Sahildeep Singh (12) on completion of their education, he said at the family’s home in Vein Poin village.
The CM also said his government would soon table before the Cabinet a comprehensive policy standardising compensation rules for Punjabis, working with of any force, who lays down life fighting for the nation.
Paramjeet Singh of the 22 Sikh Regiment was beheaded by Pakistani special forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector on May 1.
Amarinder said the jobs for the two children, which the family had sought from the government, would be in addition to the compensation already announced for the family. The state government had earlier announced a compensation of Rs 12 lakh for the family-- Rs 5 lakh for the widow and the children, Rs 2 lakh for parents, and a plot worth Rs 5 lakh.
Another Rs 1 lakh was announced for renaming the local rest house in the soldier’s name.
The Chief Minister also announced a school and a stadium in the area in the name of the martyred jawan.
The younger daughter, Khushdeep Kaur, has been adopted by an IAS-IPS couple from Himachal Pradesh.
Asked if the government was not discriminating against the third child of the deceased, he said it was not possible to provide individual compensation to every family member, but he made it clear that all promises made to the family would be fulfilled and more help would be granted if needed.
He also alleged that the Central government was not doing enough for the forces manning the country’s borders. Tough steps need to be taken to prevent recurrence of such brutal killings at the border and India should retaliate with thrice the force to any incursions, he said.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Cabinet colleagues Rana Gurjit Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu, as well as Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar.
CM, CONG MPS, MLAS TO PAY OBEISANCE AT GOLDEN TEMPLE
Amritsar: All Congress MPs and MLAs in Punjab will join Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in paying obeisance at the Golden Temple here on Monday. The chief minister is scheduled to visit the Harmandir Sahib from 8 am to 9 am, before going to Jallianwala Bagh to pay homage to the martyrs, an official spokesman said here. He will also visit the Durgiana Mandir and then the Sri Ram Tirath Sthal. The chief minister, who reached Amritsar on Sunday evening after a visit to Tarn Taran, had been planning the Harmandir Sahib visit since taking over the reins of government in the state but had been constrained by work issues and a relapse of his foot injury, with doctors advising him restricted movement, the spokesman said.
Recently, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had criticised Amarinder for not paying obeisance at the Golden Temple, Sikhism’s holiest shrine, after becoming chief minister. The spokesman said the chief minister, who was accompanied in Tarn Taran by cabinet colleagues Rana Gurjit Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu, besides the local MLA, will be joined by the other MPs and MLAs in Amritsar.
Kejriwal’s corrupt face exposed, should quit as Delhi CM: Capt
Tarn Taran: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday sought the resignation of his Delhi counterpart, Arvind Kejriwal, claiming that the AAP supremo had no moral right to continue in office as his “corrupt face” had been “totally exposed”.
The Congress leader said his party had for long been maintaining that Kejriwal was a “dacoit”, who was “only interested in filling his pockets”.
His comments came in the backdrop of sacked Delhi minister Kapil Mishra on Sunday accusing Kejriwal of taking Rs 2 crore from his cabinet colleague Satyendar Jain, a charge refuted by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Singh said given the seriousness of the allegations levelled against him and his party over the past several months, Kejriwal should have resigned a long time ago. “But being a shameless person that he is, the Aam Aadmi Party leader will not even quit now,” he added.
In a statement, Singh, who was here to offer condolences to the family of armyman Paramjeet Singh, who was beheaded by Pakistani soldiers recently, demanded a CBI probe into the allegations levelled against Kejriwal by Mishra and action against the AAP supremo under the anti-corruption laws.
Claiming that Kejriwal had “lost all credibility” and his party was “in the midst of an identity crisis”, with no semblance of governance left in Delhi, he said the AAP should make way for fresh elections in the national capital, which deserved “honest and clean” governance.
Singh urged the Delhi Lieutenant Governor to initiate action against Kejriwal and his government to “free the people of Delhi from their misgovernance”.
Reacting to Mishra’s allegations against Kejriwal, Singh said the “mask” was “finally and completely off the face” of the AAP supremo, whose “tryst with corruption” had started surfacing during the Punjab Assembly polls in February.
