Amritsar : Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today reiterated his government’s commitment to waiving farmers’ debts, eradicating the drug menace and severely dealing with the culprits involved in the desecration of Guru Granth Sahib.
The CM was on his maiden visit to the State War Heroes’ Memorial and Museum here. He said the State Farmers’ Commission was working out the modalities and would give viable recommendations on the waiver of farmers’ loans within two months.
He said the UP Government had announced debt waiver for farmers without any practical framework, whereas his government would formulate a comprehensive plan to free Punjab’s farmers from the debt trap.
On the drug issue, he said the Special Task Force led by ADGP Harpreet Singh Sidhu was tackling the problem aggressively.
Drugs are in short supply due to the crackdown by the police. Their prices have skyrocketed, pushing them beyond the reach of addicts, he said.
Capt Amarinder pointed out that his government had set up a fresh Commission of Inquiry to probe all cases of desecration and identify the culprits.
