Chandigarh : Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab convener Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi, who quit the party just after 18 months on Wednesday, is likely to join the ruling Punjab Congress.

Sources disclosed that Ghuggi, who unsuccessfully contested the Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections from Batala, is in touch with senior Congress leaders and had a number of meetings with them. It is also learnt that Ghuggi had a meeting with senior Congress leader in a city-based hotel recently.

Ghuggi denied the reports of his joining the Congress. He claimed to be meeting with leaders of many parties every day but did not confirm his recent meeting with the Congress leader.

He, however, claimed that he had been organising meetings of certain leaders (sitting ministers in the Congress government) with AAP top leadership before elections to make them join the AAP.

He claimed to have not said good-bye to politics but expressed his wish to extend his support to the party he will be liking the most in future.

A senior Congress leader admitted that Ghuggi was in the loop and may switch over to Congress. It is learnt that Ghuggi, being a convener of AAP, Punjab unit, had attended a meeting headed by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh to discuss on formation of certain committee relating to culture, recently.

Meanwhile, certain Congress leaders, at the coronation ceremony of Sunil Jhakar as chief of Punjab Congress, have resented the move of inducting Ghuggi into the party fold.
