Gurdaspur : Former Punjab AAP convener Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi is all set to join the Congress, say sources. Ghuggi, who lost the Assembly election from Batala, refused to comment. But his aide said: “He has not bid adieu to politics. Joining the Congress is the best available option.”

Ghuggi had polled an impressive 34,000 votes from the Batala seat which is a part of the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency. Claiming Ghuggi’s switchover was imminent, a Congress leader said: “Once he is with us, we will consider his candidature for the Gurdaspur seat.”

A byelection to the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat has been necessitated owing to the death of BJP MP Vinod Khanna. Ghuggi’s entry into the Congress is bound to be opposed by certain leaders.
