Fill 4,000 vacant police posts, CM tells officials

CHANDIGARH : Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday ordered the officials concerned to take immediate steps to fill up 4,000 existing police vacancies across ranks. Chairing a meeting of home and police department officials here on Friday, the CM asked them to ensure that 2,000 police personnel are recruited every year to fill the vacancies arising annually.

Expressing concern over the shortfall of police personnel for law and order duty, Capt warned that his government will brook no delay in the matter of filling up vacancies. The meeting also reviewed the progress on territorial restructuring of police stations in the wake of abolition of the halqa in-charge system, an official spokesperson said. He asked the officials to expedite process of restructuring police stations to delink them from assembly constituencies.
