CHANDIGARH: Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday gave in-principle approval for the creation of a separate administrative body for the execution of horticulture-related projects.
He also ordered the creation of a mechanism to protect the rights of those leasing out their land to corporates and individuals for horticulture projects.
The CM asked his principal secretary and the chief secretary to prepare a comprehensive plan to shift from conventional agriculture to the high-value horticulture to boost crop diversification and shift from the traditional wheat-paddy crop cycle.
Pointing out that landowners were not leasing out their land for fear of losing it, leading to sub-optimal use of land resources, officials stressed the need to enable corporate and individuals investing in horticulture. The chief minister ordered steps for stringent implementation of the 2011 amendments made to the relevant legislations to protect ownership and possession rights.
