New Delhi/Chandigarh : To help out the beleaguered farming sector and accelerate the pace of industrial and border area’s development, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday sought special package from the Centre during his meeting with NITI Aayog vice chairman Arvind Panagariya. It is learnt that Captain discussed with him among other things Central support and collaboration in the holistic development of the state, with special measures to help out farming sector and special packages for debt waiver, industrialisation and border area development.
NITI Aayog also agreed to visit Punjab for detailed discussions with the state government for the development of the region through crop diversification, industrial revival and other programmes. According to an official spokesman, the NITI Aayog assured the Chief Minister that Punjab would not be impacted by industrial incentives to Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Captain also sought from NITI Aayog price deficiency support for maize and other crops, as per the Central MSP, in addition to wheat and paddy, to encourage farmers to opt for alternative cropping to increase their earnings. He urged the Aayog to provide the state with technical support.
