CHANDIGARH :Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday said an assessment of the work being carried out by solid waste management companies in the state will be carried out and those doing well will be given more such projects.

Sidhu said this while presiding over a meeting with the state’s all 10 municipal corporation commissioners to review the smooth functioning of solid waste management projects.

The need to ensure a clean look of cities and towns was taken up in the meeting.

Sidhu directed the departmental officials that the remedy to this problem must be found before the onset of monsoon and stressed the need to have ultramodern super suction machines for the same.

The minister said these machines will be used on priority basis in Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Patiala and Bathinda so that people living in these cities don’t face any problem.

Addressing the representatives of various companies running projects in different clusters, the local bodies and tourism minister said he expected a healthy competition among all firms to provide better services in urban pockets.
