Manpreet for resolving HP’s share in BBMB through talks

Shimla : Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal assured that both the states Himachal Pradesh and Punjab _ would resolve the issue of share in the BBMB. Besides this, he took strong exception of the Centre’s policy on agriculture which has led to continued suicides by the farmers.

He was addressing a press conference at the state Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, here on Tuesday.

Manpreet said that Punjab was in favour of resolving the issue through mutual dialogue. He said since the huge amount arrears have been claimed by Himachal Pradesh, the Punjab’s financial position was not sound due to mismanagement of funds by the previous regime. It is recalled that Himachal Pradesh had recently demanded its7.19 per cent share of power in the BBMB projects and over Rs 4,200 crore have been accumulated so far.

Manpreet Singh Badal also took a dig at the Centre for no resolving the farmers’ issues. He claimed that each day nearly 35 farmers commit suicide in the country taking the annual death toll at 12 thousand farmers.

Manpreet Singh said that after the formation of the BJP led government at the Centre, the government had sidelined the recommendations of the Swaminathan Committee. He demanded implementation of the Kisan Ayog’s recommendations to mitigate the problems faced by the farmers.
