Chandigarh/amritsar : Lashing out at the Akali Dal for “the legacy of religious sacrilege it has left behind”, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Sunil Jakhar today alleged that the SAD-BJP had gone all out to erode religious institutions in the state, not sparing even the Golden Temple.
Blaming the Akalis for the telecast of liquor ads on LED screens at the Heritage Street leading up to the Golden Temple, Jakhar claimed that the Akalis had given 15-year contracts for these screens in sheer haste and had failed to control the ad content.
Urging the CM to order an inquiry, he said the contract was given for a measly Rs5 lakh per annum, which pointed towards huge financial bungling.
Meanwhile, a senior official said on the condition of anonymity that the contract was signed before the completion of the façade development project in January.
“The project was allotted to a Jaipur-based firm on a public-private partnership basis. The terms and conditions mentioned that the advertisements would be certified by the authorities concerned before their LED screening. The content was supposed to be approved by the Deputy Commissioner or the director of the Galiara project,” he added.
Amritsar DC Kamaldeep Singh Sangha could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
