Chandigarh : With no scope of any help from Union government, the Punjab government will generate funds from own resources to waive off farmers’ debts. The government will cut is needless expenses to generate funds.

Despite poor financial health of the state, the government is committed to fulfill its all pre-poll promises and has made provisions of special fund to waive off farmer’s loans, claimed Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.

Manpreet was interacting with media persons in Punjab Civil Secretariat on Monday morning. The government is already in process to access the actual debt on state farmers and the process to waive off the loans would be started soon after the exact debts are evaluated, he claimed.

The finance minister, however claimed that the Budget would be public-friendly but refused to divulge more on the Budget.

On waiving off farmers’ debts, the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday clarified that the state governments will have to generate their own funds to waive off farmers’ loans.

Jaitley said that the state governments that decide to waive such loans would have to dip into their own reserves, reasoning Centre’s intervention in one state will lead to demands from others.
