Meira Kumar to meet Punjab, Haryana MPs, MLAs on Sunday

Chandigarh: Congress nominee for post of President Meira Kumar will meet Congress MPs and MLAs of Punjab and Haryana on Sunday. Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, as a part of election campaign, will seek votes for the Congress MPs and MLAs.

Sources disclosed that Kumar will first meet MPs and MLAs from Haryana and then have a meeting with Punjab lawmakers. Former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, who is accompanying the UPA’s Presidential candidate during her campaign in different states, will also be present.

Punjab has 77 MLAs of Congress in the 117-member Punjab assembly in addition to four MP and three Rajya Sabha members.

The 90-member Haryana assembly has 17 Congress MLAs, one MP and two Rajya Sabha members.

In Punjab, the BJP and Lok Insaaf Party have already extended their support to BJP nominee Ram Nath Kovind. The Aam Aadmi Party has not decided on this issue as yet despite a meeting with party leadership in Delhi last week.

Haryana BJP and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) have already declared that they are in support of Kovind.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
