Chandigarh :Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly noted lawyer H S Phoolka resigned from the post on Tuesday.
Phoolka came in person to the residence of Speaker of Punjab Assembly Rana K P Singh and submitted his resignation to quit as a leader of opposition.
Speaking to Daily Post, Phoolka said that he had come here specially to submit his resignation as he had to follow the anti-Sikh riots cases in Delhi on Thursday.
Notably, Phoolka was disallowed by the Delhi Bar Council from appearing in the court on the grounds that as a Leader of Opposition, he enjoyed an office of profit. Speaker Rana K P Singh said that Phoolka’s resignation has been received and further action is being taken for its approval.
After submitting his resignation from the post, Phoolka said that he would continue as an MLA in Punjab Assembly, but he has returned back all the facilities given to him as a Leader of Opposition such as official house, security cover, car and special staff.
He claimed that he has been fighting the anti-Sikh riots cases for the last 30 years without any fee. He also said that he had already informed his party leader and the party will soon appoint its new leader in Punjab Assembly. Phoolka said that on Thursday, there may be a decision on the bail application of accused Sajjan Kumar and he felt that his presence in the case was very important.
