MLAs, officials banned from laying foundation stones

Chandigarh : The Department of General Administration, Punjab, banned MLAs, government officials and local leaders from laying foundation stones and inauguration plaques.

In a letter to head of all departments, commissioners of all divisions, deputy commissioners and sub-divisional magistrates, the Department of General Administration conveyed that only President, Vice President, Chief Justice of Supreme Court and High Court, Chief Minister, Speaker of Lok Sabha and Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Union and state cabinet ministers are eligible to lay foundation stones and inauguration plaques in the state.

According to the letter, the name of an office-bearer or any other person will not be inscribed on these plaques and foundation stones.

No disruption in admn functioning during VIP visits

The administration at the district levels will function as usual during the field visits of the Chief Minister and his ministers. General Administration Department, Punjab has intimated this to all department heads, divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners.

The instruction is in pursuance of the decision taken in this regard by the Punjab Cabinet in its first meeting held here on March 18, 2017. It has been intimated that in case some official is to be deputed to receive any VIP, the same will be conveyed by the respective district administration in writing.
