Capt Amarinder approves `30 crore for Patiala

Chandigarh : The Punjab government has decided to repair and develop Patiala’s crumbling road network, in addition to a slew of other measures for the development of the city.
The Chief Minister has approved Rs 30 crore for the large-scale renovation of its roads as part of the government’s development agenda, an official spokesperson said on Tuesday.
In another initiative, the CM has given go-ahead for the development of chowk from Adalat Bazar to the historic Qila Mubarak as a heritage corridor.
The state government has also initiated two pilot projects in the city for the establishment of underground bins, at Modi Plaza and behind Mandir Shri Kali Mata, besides identifying 20 more locations for the next phase, at a total cost of Rs 2.6 crore. Chief Minister has approved three channelisation projects to improve the area’s drainage system. These are located at Patiala Chhoti Nadi, Jacobs Drain and Model Town Drain, according to a government spokesperson.
The government plans to go in for chain link fencing of Bir Khule Majra and Bir Majal under RKVY & Campa to check the menace of stray cattle, said the spokesperson.
The government also plans to develop a nature park and nursery. Another Rs. 1 crore has been set aside for development of parks in the city.
A multi-storyed parking lot is also on the anvil, along with replacement of street lights with the energy-saving LED lights across the city. It is also proposed to develop 52 model anganwaadis in the area, besides launch of Avsar Project - a bridge school for slum children.
