Toilet in every household to be achieved by Dec 31: Tript Bajwa

Chandigarh : The goal of providing every home toilet in Punjab would be achieved by December 31 this year. The Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat and Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa on Wednesday issued directions to the senior officers of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department to complete this mission without any delay. Presiding over a review meeting of the department here on Wednesday, the minister issued clear cut instructions to monitor the work at the grassroot level to achieve 100 per cent results in terms of quality.

Bajwa asked the officers to use government money/grants in a transparent manner and misuse and wastage of money would not be tolerated. He also asked the officers to ensure quality work and strictness should be exercised against the violators. At the same time, he also said that all development works must be completed in a time-bound phase.

The Minister took serious note of the reports of the RO systems not working and directed to immediately repair and reinstall the non-functional RO systems on top priority to provide clean drinking water to the people.

He also directed the officials to personally examine the present status of the water tanks by visiting the spot and the repair work of water tanks in poor condition should be done without any delay.

An important decision was taken in the meeting to ensure a receipt of the money collected from the people using government water supply facility and also asked to develop a transparent system to spend the collected money. The Minister also directed to immediately implement this decision.

Bajwa also appealed to the people not to waste and misuse the government water supply facility and complain about the misuse of water at the Toll free number 18001802468.

In the meeting, Secretary of the Department Jaspreet Talwar briefed about the targets set by the department for this financial year. She also briefed that 9 districts of the state have already been declared freedom from open defecation and remaining target would also be completed within set time. She also said that the scheme for providing 10 hours water supply would be implemented on a fast track.
