Chandigarh : A day after The Tribune carried a report “Another pesticide disaster looms, farmers panicky” in its columns, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh will visit Mansa tomorrow to assess the situation arising out of the whitefly attack on cotton crops. The visit is also in response to reports of farmers in the region uprooting their crops following the pest attack.

The CM, accompanied by senior officials, has already directed the Agriculture Department to help farmers, warning that no laxity in this regard would be tolerated, a press release said.

The CM is learnt to have decided to visit the affected areas for a first-hand assessment of impact on the farming community. The CM also directed the department and the police authorities to crack down on the sale of spurious pesticides, which had aggravated the situation.
