ASSISTANT REGISTRAR, COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES, CAN NO LONGER REFER LOAN RECOVERY CASES OF THE COOPERATIVE BANKS TO THE TEHSILDAR.
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Saturday clarified that “kurki” (attachment of land for non-payment of arrears by farmers) had been abolished with the amendment of the Punjab Cooperative Societies Act, 1961, and no amendment was needed to the Punjab Land Revenue Act, 1887. A clarification was issued by a government spokesperson in reaction to reports in a section of the media saying that “kurki” had not been eliminated in the absence of amendment to the Punjab Land Revenue Act.
The amendment to delete Section 67-A of the Punjab Cooperative Societies Act, 1961, has been notified.
“For recovery of loan dues of commercial banks, the state government is pursuing the matter with the Centre and for recovery of loans from non-institutional resources, including arhtiyas, CM Captain Amarinder Singh has appealed to Aarthias not to resort to kurki,” it added.
