Congmen, ministers, pay homage to Beant

CHANDIGARH: The Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government on Thursday observed the 22nd death anniversary of former chief minister Beant Singh, marking it as ‘Sarab Dharam Ka Samelan’ at the state level function held at Sector 42, Chandigarh.

An all faith prayer meeting was held to remember the late chief minister who sacrificed his life to restore peace and harmony in the state. Though Amarinder could not personally attend the event on account of a court appearance, the CM , in his message, recalled Beant Singh’s sacrifice for Punjab and its people. Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, grandson of the slain chief minister, pledged to carry forward the development policies and schemes initiated by the late CM. His other grandson, MLA Gurkirat Singh Kotli, was also there.

Cabinet ministers Brahm Mohindra, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Manpreet Badal, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Punjab Mandi Board chairman Lal Singh, Markfed chairman Amarjit Singh Samra, Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar and several party legislators attended the prayer meeting. Senior party functionaries, district unit presidents were also present.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
