GURDASPUR: Launching a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) for their ‘divisive’ ideology, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president and party nominee for Gurdaspur bypoll, Sunil Jakhar, said, “Communal harmony and democracy are facing grave threat at the hands of a dictator like Modi.”

Speaking at a meeting here on Saturday, Jakhar said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has murdered democracy, and stifled the voices of dissent. He is working like a dictator.”

Jakhar added that though the RSS is not an enemy of the country, its ideology is dividing India on communal lines, which is “not in interest of secularism.”

Attacking Modi, Jakhar said, “The Modi government has taken many regressive steps such as demonetisation and Goods and Services Tax (GST), which have slowed down the country’s growth.”

“They want to divide India on the basis of religion and caste, even though all communities — Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims, Jains, Dalits, backward classes and others — are equal stakeholders in the country’s progress,” he said, warning people against the “nefarious” designs of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh and Bharatiya Janata Party.
