PUCA urges CM for early release of PMS funds

Chandigarh : A delegation of Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) under the leadership of former minister Raman Bhalla and PUCA president Dr Anshu Kataria met with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and urged for the early release of Rs 205 crore of Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) before Diwali.

Kataria said that Centre has already released Rs 115 crore to the state and around Rs 30 crore from 2016-17 and around Rs 60 crore from 2017-18 committed state liability amounting to a total of Rs 205 crore was due towards the state government.

Bhalla said that that due to the non-payment of over Rs 1,200 crore from last two years, over three lakh SC students of Punjab as well as thousands of unaided colleges were facing financial hardships. He added, “Not only this, even salaries of last four to five months of teaching and non-teaching staff members in some unaided colleges were also pending.”

Captain Amarinder Singh gave a patient hearing to the problems being faced by the students and colleges due to delay in release of the scholarship and assured the delegation that he would try his best to resolve the issue at the earliest.
