Power Minister announces `11 lakh grant for Surjit Hockey Society

Jalandhar : Punjab Minister for Power and Irrigation Rana Gurjit Singh on Tuesday announced a grant of Rs 11 lakh for Surjit Hockey Society. Rana Gurjit said that more resources would be pumped in to make sure that Hockey gets revived in the state. He said that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh led congress government would bring back the lost glory of Hockey in Punjab.
Addressing the gathering during the final match of 34 Surjit Memorial Hockey tournament, the minister said that despite being our national game, hockey lagged behind in sports arena. However, he said that the state government would make all out efforts to ensure that Hockey get its due place in the field of sports. Rana Gurjit Singh said concerted efforts were being made by the Captain government to eradicate the curse of drugs by promoting sports, especially the Hockey.
Lauding the organisers of Surjit Hockey, the minister said that they have upheld the legacy of great olympian Surjit Singh alive. He said that the organisers have laid the foundation of a great movement aimed at revival of the national game.Prominent among those present were local MLAs, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Police Commissioner Praveen Kumar Sinha and IGP Arpit Shukla.
