KAPURTHALA:Three weeks after he was lodged in the Kapurthala Modern Jail on October 13, Punjab’s former Akali minister Sucha Singh Langah, 61, has had no political leader or friend visit him. Langah, who served as the agriculture minister in the Akali Dal government from 2007 to 2012, was sent to judicial custody for 14 days on the charges of rape, extortion and cheating, following a complaint filed by a woman constable on September 28.

Jail officials said Langah was not getting any special treatment, but due to security reasons, he was sharing his cell with two inmates.

“Besides his wife, son and few other family members no one else has come to meet him over the past two weeks. He is cooperating with the jail staff,” jail superintendent DK Sidhu said.

He added that a guard was deployed near his cell due to security threat from other inmates.
