New Delhi : External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said today that she had requested Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to file criminal cases against recruitment agents who misled and cheated people going abroad.

Swaraj said she had also asked the Protector General of Emigrants, the authority responsible for protecting the interests of Indian workers going abroad, to proceed against all such agents.

The minister’s tweet comes a day after Nawanshahr resident Gurbaksh Kaur returned home from Saudi Arabia.

Gurbaksh, in a recent video clip, had sought the government’s intervention in securing her and her daughter Reena’s return from the Gulf country, where they were fraudulently sent by a travel agent.

On learning about their plight, the CMhad on October 30 brought the matter to the notice of Swaraj.
