Chandigarh : Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has refuted reports which stated that he had called (and later deferred) a meeting of Congress MPs today.

Capt Amarinder said no such meeting had been scheduled. Since the programme for canvassing as a star campaigner in the Himachal Pradesh elections was finalised by the All India Congress Committee, there was no point in scheduling an appointment with the MPs, the CM said in a statement.

“The MPs, including Partap Singh Bajwa, are welcome to meet me any time. Meeting them ahead of the winter session of Parliament is the prerogative of the party leaders,” he added.

Joining the issue with Congress MLAs seeking action against Akali leaders for alleged wrongdoings during the SAD-BJP rule, Bajwa had earlier stated that he would meet the CM on November 6.

Capt Amarinder said today that Bajwa had not approached him with any complaint. “Every Congress leader has the right to air his/her grievances on the party forum. I have no clue about the reasons for Bajwa’s perceived unhappiness with the state government,” he said.

The Chief Minister had reportedly convened an all-party meeting of Punjab MPs today to discuss state issues to be taken up at the Central level. In view of his election campaign in the hill state, the meeting has been postponed to November 14, it is learnt.

In a letter sent to MPs of various parties on November 2, Principal Secretary, Parliamentary Affairs, KAP Sinha had stated that the agenda of the proposed meeting to be held at Punjab Bhavan would be sent through e-mail.
