CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress chief and Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar on Monday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government saying its “stubborn and arrogant stance” ruined half the winter session of Parliament.

“The government deliberately called the winter session late so that the opposition parties could not disclose its failures before the Gujarat polls,” Jakhar said in a statement. He said even when the session was convened, the government did nothing to ensure its smooth functioning.

Criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on former PM Manmohan Singh, the Congress MP said Modi should accept his mistake so that proceedings in Parliament could be resumed. He also questioned Modi’s promise of doubling the farmers’ income by 2022 alleging that the condition of the farmers in the country had worsened.

“Such issues can be considered if the government runs the house. The government does not want to discuss the problems of the country,” he claimed.
