Centre assures ₹400 cr to state for smart cities, tourism

CHANDIGARH: The Centre has assured financial assistance of ₹400 crore to the state government for developing tourism and smart cities.
State local bodies and tourism minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, who met Union finance minister Arun Jaitley, tourism minister KJ Alphons and minister of state for housing and urban affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on Thursday, said the centre will give ₹300 crore for developing Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana under as smart cities. The state government will contribute ₹50 crore for the project, Sidhu said.
The Union ministers also assured support for developing religious and heritage sites and memorials in the state at cost of ₹100 crore. The project will cover Anandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib, Chamkaur Sahib, Jallianwala Bagh, Hussainiwala and Khatkar Kalan.
Sidhu said that Puri will meet Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on January 6. A team of officials from the Union housing ministry will reach Chandigarh on January 1 and interact with state officials, said Sidhu.
