9000 km roads to repair with 1000 crore rupees: Razia Sultana

Chandigarh: In a major initiative in the direction of the strengthening of the road network, the Punjab Government has given a clear indication of strengthening of 9000 km of roads at a cost of Rs.1000 crores. New Delhi’s New Green Field Express Way will also be completed soon. It will be constructed by the National Highways Board.

Likewise, the Punjab government is also planning to construct Ring Road near all the major cities of the state.  This information was given by PWD Minister Razia Sultana in higher level authority meeting of the department. The Minister said that the year 2018 will be a witness to the development at large scale infrastructure in the state as Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh is taking personal interest in the upgradation of link road networks in the state. The Minister said that Landran junction of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar will be renovated at a cost of Rs 23 crore.

She said that the Chief Minister has directed the land acquisition order and the project will start work in the next financial year. A spokesman of PWD said that during the meeting PWD Minister said that in this link roads project, the remaining roads besides the link roads under Mandi Board will also be the part of project. Minister said that the efforts of the Punjab government get success when ‘New Green Field Express Way from New Delhi to Katarra Via Amritsar got approved.

This expressway will be constructed by the National Highways Board. The place for this project will be identified soon. The Minister said similarly, under the ‘Bharat Mala Yojana’, the Highway Authority will bring 800 km of highways under the four-laning National Highway. Work on this project will start soon too. When asked about Mrs. Razia Sultana’s delay in completing major road projects, Chief Engineer A K Singla said that these projects were delayed due to restrictions imposed on cutting trees by the National Green Tribunal. She said that wherever forest clearance has been received, all the projects are under worked on those places.

Minister also said that the state government does not have any funds, this is also one of reason of being delayed. While reviewing the upgradation of National Highways, the Minister directed to complete the work till December 31, 2018. She also asked to ensure that the Punjabi language will be on first placed on the boards of the roads. In the meeting, all the Chief Engineers of different wings of the department besides Principal Secretary Husan Lal was also present. All the Chief Engineers detail the progress of work on link roads, national highways, buildings and other infrastructure projects.
