Amarinder rolls out debt-waiver scheme at Mansa amid AAP protest

As a first installment of Punjab farmers’ loan waiver Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday formally launch the farm debt waiver scheme at Mansa. This scheme will benefit a total of 5.63 lakh farmers in the initial phase.

Loan waiver certificate distribution ceremony formally commenced by Captain Amarinder Singh. He along with other leaders issued certificates to farmers of five districts. Total of 35,000 farmers were present at the event. Living legend Gurdaas Mann was specially called for the occasion where he also performed.

Meanwhile, opposing the Captain loan waiver scheme for farmers Opposition leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira raised slogans against Punjab Govt and showed black flags to Punjab CM.

Punjab Govt is playing the lives of farmers- Sukhpal Khaira said, but he along with other protesters got detained and all the detainees were taken in buses to Joga Police station.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Additional Chief Secretary, Co-operation, DP Reddy and Additional Chief Secretary, Development, Viswajeet Khanna had said the government has already identified 5.63 lakh farmers, who had taken loan of nearly Rs 2,700 crore from cooperative institutions as on 31.03.2017, as beneficiaries for disbursement of the debt waiver certificates in the first of the four planned phases for completion of the entire process.

Rana Gurjit, Punjab party Congress president Sunil Jakhar, Education minister Aruna Chaudhary, Finance minister Manpreet Badal, Tripat Bajwa, Ajaib Bhatti, Lal singh and many other leaders were also present along with Captain.
