Chandigarh : Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today shifted the onus of action against former Director, Cultural and Tourism Affairs, Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa for his alleged role in selling antiques on the office of the CM.

He said files recommending action against the tainted officer was sent to the CMO on September 1 last year.

The issue has cropped up following recent media reports that no action has been initiated against Randhawa more than four months after the incident was highlighted.

Sidhu said: “I had written a letter to the CM, demanding a CBI probe into the charges against Randhawa on September 1, 2017 (diary dispatch number 324-26 (N)). A copy of the letter was also sent to the Punjab Vigilance, CBI and the Revenue Intelligence, Mumbai Zonal Unit.”

The letter addressed to the Chief Secretary had mentioned that Randhawa in connivance with one Vijay Nanda sold antiques in the international market.

On another case, Sidhu said: “The Special Secretary, Local Government, has written to the Chief Secretary that action should be taken against former commissioner of Mohali MC Rajesh Dhiman in reported bungling during procuring of tree pruning machines.

Meanwhile, Raveen Thukral, Media Adviser to the CM, said: “We have got Randhawa’s reply on the report submitted for action against him. The matter is being looked into. Appropriate action, ensuring zero tolerance towards corruption, will be initiated.”
