‘Disrespect’ to Speaker: Panel summons Sukhbir, Simarjit

Chandigarh, January 23: The Privileges Committee of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha today summoned SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) MLA Simarjit Singh Bains for showing disrespect to the Speaker during the last year’s budget session.

In a meeting, chaired by Sukhjinder Randhawa today, the decision was taken to summon the leaders to appear before the committee on February 6. The move comes six months after the privilege motion was moved by Congress MLAs Kulbir Zira and Pargat Singh against Sukhbir and the LIP MLA.

During the last year’s budget session, the Congress MLAs had objected to the utterances by the SAD president against the Speaker.

Moga DC should ‘learn’ public dealing

In the case of Moga Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dilraj Singh showing disrespect to Bagahpurana MLA Darshan Brar, the Privileges Committee has sent its recommenda-tions to the Vidhan Sabha Speaker. The committee is learnt to have recommended that the officer should not be put on a public dealing post for three years and he should undergo fresh training to learn public dealing.
