Notification for MC polls issued; EC to complete poll process till Feb 28. Two days after Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced February 24 for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections, the Department of Local Government has issued notification and asked state Election Commission to complete the poll process before February 28. The notification signed by Principal Secretary to state government reads: ‘In exercise of the powers conferred under the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act, 1976, the Governor of Punjab is pleased to direct that general elections to elect members of Municipal ana Municipal Corporation (MC) elections would be held on February 24 and the results will be out by February 26.

However, the state Election Commission had not formally announced the date of election and schedule. After the notification by government, the state Election Commission is expected to announce the dates and schedule in couple of days. Sources said that the state Election Commission is scheduled to announce the election by February 5, after the final voter list would be published on February 3. According to schedule sent by government to state Election Commission, the election date would be February 24 and the nomination process will start from February 8.

The last date for nominations would be February 12 and symbols will be allotted till February 14. The results will be announced ana Municipal Corporation (MC) elections would be held on February 24 and the results will be out by February 26. After the announcement of election dates, political parties have also swung into action and started the process to finalise their candidates. Congress is learnt to have called aspirants for interview of tickets. It is pertinent to mention here that the elections of three Municipal Corporations and Nagar Council Panchayats were held on December 17. The election of Ludhiana MC was delayed due to delay in ward delimitation.
