Chandigarh, February 2: A delegation of Congress leaders from Ludhiana, led by MPRavneet Bittu, today urged the State Election Commissioner to hold the counting of votes for the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation elections on February 24, the day of polling, instead of February 27.
Others in the delegation were Capt Sandeep Sandhu, political secretary to CM, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, an MLA from Ludhiana.
Citing that the CBSE board examination of Class X were beginning from February 28, the leaders said the Opposition was also raising the issue.
Meanwhile, a joint delegation of the AAPand the Lok Insaaf Party consisting of Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira, president of LIP Simarjit Singh Bains, MLA Kanwar Sandhu and MLA Balwinder Singh Bains today met the CEO of State Election Commission to raise issues related to the Ludhiana MC elections. He said as the whole official machinery had been “used by the government for its benefit”, it is the need of the hour to appoint a suitable and independent observer from outside the state to ensure free and fair elections.
