Jalandhar : Ahead of the state Cabinet reshuffle, Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today expressed his dissatisfaction over the working of the NRI Department of his government and said it had a lot of room for improvement.

Sidhu, who was at Paragpur village near Jalandhar Cantonment to attend “Jatt Expo” organised by NRI brothers Ranjit S Tutt and Ranbir S Tutt, said the so-called single window system for NRIs was on paper only. “In reality, there are 56 windows behind that window. It is for this reason that NRIs have lost their faith in the Punjab Government and are no longer interested in investing here,” he said emphasising on the need for the formation of a special cell for NRIs.

He said, “So far, we have only been visiting them in Australia or Southall and asking them to host $100 per plate fund-raising dinners and returning home after begging for donations. Even the NRI sammelans that the previous government organised is of no use. We need to create a cell to connect the new generations back with their roots.”
