Chandigarh : Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said he would urge the Defence Minister to simplify and expedite clearances required for shooting war movies and biopics on war heroes.

He made this assurance to producer-director JP Dutta, when the latter met him along with the team of his next movie “Paltan”.

The movie is centered around the 1967 India-China clashes at Nathu La (Sikkim).

Dutta, who is currently shooting for the movie in Punjab, said filmmakers were constrained by the fact that multiple clearances were required while making Defence-related movies. This leads to major delays, often deterring filmmakers from making such movies, said Dutta.

Sharing the filmmaker’s concern, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder said he would raise the issue with the Defence Minister. “It is in the interest of the defence forces as such movies could help inspire youngsters to join the armed forces,” said Capt Amarinder, himself an ex-Army official and a military historian.
