Elections officials, observers review preparations

LUDHIANA: District electoral officer-cumdeputy commissioner (DC) Pradeep Kumar Agrawal along with election observers held a meeting with returning officers to discuss the preparations of Ludhiana municipal corporation (MC) elections here on Wednesday.

During the meet, bypolls preparations in two wards of Payal and Jagraon municipal councils were also discussed.

Agrawal directed the officers to ensure strict enforcement of model code of conduct. He asked them to carry out their election duties smoothly and without any discrimination.

He said the officers should carry out various activities under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) in order to attract maximum participation from the voters. He added that officers should also visit sensitive polling stations without any fear and pressure. Besides, additional district electoral officer-cum- additional deputy commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta and returning officers briefed the DC about the election preparations. In MC Ludhiana election, around 10.50 lakh voters are expected to cast their votes to elect representatives from 95 wards, out of which 5.67 lakh voters are males, 4.82 lakh are females and 23 belong to the third gender.

The polling will be held on February 24 and the results will be announced on February 27.
