Punjab govt’s crucial meeting about farmer’s debt

Chandigarh(Narinder Jagga): All eyes are on tomorrow’s banker committee’s meeting, which will reveal the truth of debt waiver scheme of the Punjab Government. In the first time, the Banker’s committee has kept in agenda about the debt issue of Punjab. Banker’s committee organizes quarterly meeting of all banks. Chief Secretary of Punjab will be present in the meeting as a Special Guest.

Sources told that bankers had already denied to follow the plan of Punjab Government. According to Punjab Government proposal , it had been planned to own up farmer’s loan of Cooperative banks as well as National and Commercial banks to pay the debt of farmer in installments. But the Banker’s committee had denied by saying that there is no rule or precedence for such an arrangement. Sources of Banker’s committee had also said that if it was done , the other states would also seek a similar arrangement. Notable, the Punjab Government has organized its first programme to waive off the loan, in Mansa in last month. The next programme is likely to be organized in the first week of March.
